RCD Taxi ServiceSam Lord's Castle is an elegant mansion built in the 1820's by Samuel Hall Lord, a notorious and colourful planter. The well-landscaped, meandering path leads you on a self guided tour past a waterfall, through a coral grotto and eventually through five orchid houses.Bridgetown is the capital and commercial centre and has a population of about 80 000. Harrison's Cave, in St. Thomas, is one of the finest cave systems in the world. It has large chambers, with beautiful stalactites, lakes, streams and waterfalls, viewed from electric trains.Bathsheba, St. Joseph is a beautiful seaside resorts with dramatic beaches and fine restaurants, famous for local cuisine.Flower Forest, St Joseph is a 50 acre plantation over 800 feet above sea level, which has been developed into a tropical garden interspersed with fruit trees and banana groves. It is on the edge of the Scotland District and offers picturesque views.Welchman Hall Gully, St.Thomas, is an unusual natural formation, resulting from the collapse of the roof of part of the Harrison's Cave system. In this deep gully is a natural garden of tropical rain forest trees and plants as well as a nutmeg grove.Holetown was the first settlementin Barbados and was originally named Jamestown, after its benefactor King James I of EnglandMorgan Lewis Sugar Windmill, St. Andrew, is the only surviving sugar windmill in the Caribbean, with all of its machinery and fittings in place and intact. It houses a museum display of old photographs and plantation artifacts.Farley Hill, St. Peter is a ruin of a beautiful Georgian mansion, built by the famous liberal planter, legislator and collector, Sir Graham Briggs. Here he received British royal visitors and established a superb garden. The house was used as Belfontaine Mansion in the famous film "Island in the Sun". After a major fire in 1965 the property was acquired by the Barbados Government and is now the Farley Hill National Park.Crane Beach, originally a harbour, is considered by many to be one of the island's most beautiful beaches. At Oistins, the visitor can see Barbadian fishing boats (at right) and the weaving of fishing nets by local fishermen.St.Lawrence Gap, a 1.3 km stretch of road in the parish of Christ Church, is famous for it's fine restaurants, diverse accommodation, lively nightlife and good shopping. St. Nicholas Abbey, St. Peter, was built in 1660 and is one of the only three genuine Jacobean mansions surviving in the Western Hemisphere. It is distinguished by elegant curved Dutched gables, chimney stacks and coral stone finials, a Chinese Chippendale staircase, fine antiques and china. THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT BARBADOS:

Entry Requirements
North Americans and most European citizens need either a valid passport or proof of citizenship-e.g. A birth certificate-supported by one form of photo identification.

Currency
The Barbados dollars is fixed to the US dollar at US$ 1.00=BDS$ 1.45. The Canadian dollar is currently valued at approximately BDS$ 1.45 in 2000. The US dollar is widely accepted and most restaurants, hotels, shops and taxis will accept Canadian dollars or pounds sterling at the daily bank exchange rate.

Banking hours
Normal banking hours in Barbados 8am until 3pm Monday to Thursday and until 5pm on Friday. Banks are closed Saturday and Sunday. The airport exchange counter is open daily from 8am until the last plane leaves or arrives.

Transportation
Barbados has an array of public transportation which includes taxis and car rental companies to provide addition transport services,. A temporary driver's permit is required and may be obtained where you rent your car. A valid Canadian or US driver's license is required. Local bus and minivan services frequently and runs on regular schedules along the coastal and interior routes, should you need more information ask any local with whom you feel comfortable or familiar with.
